Polka Dot fun … Wedding Hermanus

Jaunita and Stephan celebrated their Hermanus Wedding at Uijlenes on 20th September.  this is just the other side of Gansbaai, Shark Cage Diving hotspot.  They chose a venue that could accommodate all their guests, so driving was not an issue.  The formal photographs have not yet been released by the photographer, so we will update at a later stage, but thought you’d enjoy a preview of this unusual wedding so here are a few of my snapshots before the guests arrived. The ceremony was held in the adjoining forest where canapes and...

Winter Blessing at Sumaridge

The dearest owners of Sumaridge Wine Estate, Holly and Simon, celebrated their Wedding Blessing (Renewal of Vows) amidst their Family, Friends and Neighbours of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.  Many guests flew in from abroad where this couple swallow between Hermanus and Home away. Winter is a very difficult time to plan an Outdoor Celebration.  We were prepared for the worst, but dealt a pleasant surprise.  The afternoon weather was superb,  the skies were clear and even the South Easter behaved during the proceedings.  The ceremony was held...

Less is More …

This lovely young couple chose Sumaridge’s ‘castle’ to exchange their vows and Celebrate their Wedding Day in Hermanus.  Their small party of 15 were seated upstairs overlooking the beautiful vistas of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley.  We had experienced terrible weather prior to this day, and expected the worst, but alas, the day was perfect, the skies were clear, the breeze calm and the sun most welcome. After the ceremony they enjoyed canapés and drinks in the Tasting Room enjoying the magical sunset whilst hearing about the...

’90 and Still Gorgeous

It’s not everyday we are blessed with a request to prepare a High Tea for a ‘young’ lady’s 90th Birthday!  The Windsor Hotel in Hermanus was kind enough to allow us to use their dining hall to celebrate this special occasion.  The weather was perfect, clear skies against the lapping waves, and the whales were breaching within view of the venue. As most of the family were travelling though from Cape Town, we ensured there was plenty to eat and drink at this event, whilst our young hostess charmed guests with her angelic voice.  An...

Around the world and back again …

Mike and Nats decided to join hands in matrimony in the small village of Kleinbaai, 30 minutes from Hermanus, just outside of Gansbaai. (Shark Diving Capital!) Although they are both Globe Trotters due to their interesting work schedules, they had a connection to this little village which has a special significance to them.  Mike originally from Cape Town, and Nats, born in Wales, communicated with me via e-mail and we met only a few days before their Wedding Day.  It felt like we had been friends for a while already, as we had gone...

Toyota Launch

Toyota, Hermanus, celebrated the launch of their impressive New Showroom on Thursday, 5th June.  Despite the cold and wet weather, the turnout of over 200 guests was a true reflection of the dedication and excellent service delivered by this team to their clientele.  A light finger dinner was prepared by Warwicks Chef School and entertainment was provided by Piano Ben.  The colour palette for the evening was red, black and white, so we displayed Maxi Gerbera’s on floral ice in rose bowls illuminated by white led lights covered...

Sweden meets SA – part 1

This was the first of a three day event where we hosted 80 Europeans in our beautiful town.  The weather was amazing after months of following  weather channels predicting typical winter conditions. We set up a Bedouin tent over their holiday courtyard area, brought in additional furniture, music systems, a mobile bar and caterers and our guests were in awe.  They enjoyed a typical South African Braai with salads, veg, ‘pap & sous’ and of course the traditional Malva Pudding, Koeksisters and the like!   This was the formal...

Picture Purrrfect Picnic – part 2

Ok, well, our European guests made it to their pick-up transporters the following morning following there Sweden meets SA’s welcoming braai (barbeque to others outside SA)  ….what where they thinking?   We have more wine than water!  Day two was a picnic arranged at the breathtaking Hamilton Russell Vineyards.  Once again, this was supposed to be our worst weather, but the day turned out to be a fairy tale.  There was not a breath of wind, the sky was clear, the picnic baskets delectable and the wines, of course,...

Love on the Rocks – part 3

Oh, you’ll say, cliche…but no… this is the real thing.  Day 3, and our guests were still ready to Rock!  We congregated on the Rocks at ‘Hottentotsbank’ on the famous 12.5km cliff path of Hermanus where our Bride and Groom tied the knot.  This in itself was a logistical challenge as there was no level surface, hence all the ladies in their flats for the ceremony.   Canapes, including freshly shucked oysters were served as well as champagne, giving a whole new meaning to ‘on the rocks’!...

From Paris with Love

Maryke celebrated her 50th Birthday at Grootbos Nature Reserve in absolute elegance on 10th May.  Her choice was a French Affair with lots of candles, crisp and white decor. We sourced Louis XiV Ghost Chairs to compliment the Crystal and Silver table decor.  The table numbers were housed by a Fleur-de-lis stand  and Silver baroque underplates added the finishing touch.  The flowers arrangements were a variety of white roses and fountain fern used as a dramatic filler.  The venue looked as if it were awaiting a bride on her Wedding Day...
